A botanically brewed soft drinks and mixers business headquartered in Northumberland has recorded a landmark year, with sales surging to record heights.

Fentimans, which is based in Hexham, can trace its history back to 1905 and today sells its drinks around the world. It is owned by the great grandson of the founder, Thomas Fentiman.

In the year to 31 December 2018 turnover at the business grew to £40.4m, an increase of £10.4m or 35 per cent.

The company's gross profit reached £9.7m, a 14 per cent jump from 2017, with pre-tax profit for the year amounting to £1m, up from £634,000.

Continuing to grow internationally, export sales of £15.6m now account for 39 per cent of the business' turnover.

2018 was the first full year of the firm's major brand relaunch, which saw a roll out of a new brand identity and packaging across the soft drinks and mixers portfolio.  

Fentimans' results come as the company revealed plans for a £1.2m advertising campaign - the biggest in its history - aiming to convert more consumers from mass market to premium soft drinks and mixers.
